The PHONONS Conference

The international conference PHONONS is one of the most important forum for phonon physics and related phenomena, both experimental and theoretical. It is held every 3 years, starting in France at Sainte-Maxime in 1972, and followed by meetings at Nottingham (1975), Providence (1979), Stuttgart (1983), Urbana-Champaign (1986), Heidelberg (1989), Ithaca (1992), Sapporo (1995), Lancaster (1998), Dartmouth (2001), St. Petersburg (2004), and Paris (2007).

The topics covered include lattice dynamics, phase transitions, coherent phonon generation, light/neutrons and x-ray inelastic scattering, phonons in superconductors and new materials, phonons in glasses and disordered materials, phonons in nanoscaled structures and nano/micro thermal phonon transport, as well as related effects in the growing areas of nanosciences and nanotechnologies.

The conference PHONONS 2010 will be held between April 18th and 23rd, 2010, in National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. It will be the 13th International Conference on Phonon Scattering in Condensed Matter and the second in Asia. In PHONONS 2010, increased contribution from newly developed areas is expected, such as nano-ultrasonics, thermal transport in nanostructures, and femtosecond X-ray scattering. Judging from the quality of invited and contributed papers in previous PHONONS conferences, we have every reason to believe that the PHONONS 2010 conference will be an exciting and successful event.
